1. Trial Service
    1. Broughton Parish Council (BPC) has seven green garden waste bins, to freely offer to those residents who do not have access to the subscription service or who require additional garden waste capacity.
    2. It is expected that large volumes of garden waste will still be taken by residents to recycling centres that offer easier transport and disposal facilities
    3. BPC is trialling this free service during Summer 2024. If the below process and conditions are not adhered to through this trial period, the offer may be withdrawn.
  2. Booking Process
    1. Bins are individually identified and must be booked out to ensure fair access for all residents and in case any follow up by BPC is required.
    2. Up to two bins can be booked per property in a two week period
    3. Bins will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and only one bin may be available if demand is high
    4. Bookings can be made at any time by completing the online form at the top of this page. If you have any difficulties then contact dave@broughtoncambspc.org.uk who is administering the service on behalf of BPC.
  3. Collecting the Bins
    1. Those making the booking are responsible for collecting the empty bins from the Pound Green Lock Up on Causeway Road (‘Lock Up’) and taking them to their property for filling.
    2. Those making the booking are responsible for arranging a mutually convenient time to meet a BPC councillor at the Lock Up to receive the requested number of bins.
    3. Bins can only be taken for a maximum of two weeks.
  4. Filling the Bins
    1. The bins can only be filled with garden waste as per the subscription service offered by HDC (https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/bins-waste/garden-waste-subscription-service). This includes not using the bins for food waste that could attract vermin.
    2. To maximise the benefit of the scheme, offer any spare capacity in the bins to neighbours and seek assistance as required to safely return the filled bins to the Lock Up.
  5. Returning the Bins
    1. Bins will only be emptied by Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) from the designated collection point on Causeway Road in front of the Lock Up and not from the properties of those making the booking.
    2. It is the responsibility of individuals making the booking to return the full bins to Causeway Road in front of the Lock Up in time for emptying by HDC as part of their standard Thursday morning round (dates published by HDC at https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/refuse-calendar/). No other collection arrangements are possible.
    3. Bins should only be returned to the road in front of the Lock Up on the Wednesday before a routine Thursday morning collection by HDC and left neatly as shown in the photo below. This minimises the risk of the bins being a visual nuisance.
    4. Those returning the bins are responsible for clearing any spillage.
