Flood water on School Road by Village Hall

Water has been flooding on to the road by the village hall for some time. This is caused by a blocked culvert under the road and a combination of at least one additional blocked drain.

The Highways Department of the County Council is responsible for maintaining the road. The leader of the Broughton Flood Group reported this problem some time ago. I wrote to the Highways manager expressing concern that, whilst the splash-risk is a nuisance, the danger of the flood water freezing could produce a danger to life for both pedestrians and motorists.

The Highways Department plans to position signage warning of the flooding in the road to be followed (we do not know when) by clearing the blocked culvert and associated blocked drains. Our District and County Councillors are aware of this problem and fully supportive in clearing the blockages.

In the meantime, please be careful in the road near the village hall. It may be some time before this problem is finally resolved.
